Bishop's Castle Around and About Walk

Early May

The Around and About walk is a well-directed and supervised walk of 22 miles taking in many interesting aspects of the South Shropshire countryside. This annual event is organised by Bishop's Castle Hockey Club as a charity fundraiser.

The route starts from Bishop's Castle and takes you up to Bishop's Moat, along a short stretch of Offa's Dyke to Churchtown, through Mainstone and into Clun for lunch. You then walk up over Bury Ditches down into Lydbury North. Up again to London Road and back to Bishop's Castle.

For those wanting a shorter walk of 10 miles, it will be possible to start after lunch from Clun. Drinks will be available from regular checkpoints approximately 3-4 miles apart and lunch will be provided for all walkers in Clun but you may wish to take additional snacks to munch along the way.

Walkers can retire at any checkpoint and transport back to Bishop's Castle will be provided.

Walkers under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult and have written permission from a parent or guardian. Children under 10 may only walk the first 12 miles from Bishop's Castle to Clun or the last 10 miles from Clun. No children under 7 allowed on the walk.

The entrance fee includes refreshments, lunch, transport if needed, a certificate and walk leaflet.

The walks usually start from the Castle Hotel between 8.30am and 10.00am or from Clun between 1.00pm and 2.00pm. All entrants will be expected to wear or carry suitable clothing and footwear. No dogs or bikes allowed on any part of the route.

Walkers wishing to use this occasion to raise sponsorship for their favourite charity may do so. A form will be provided.

Please contact Mrs Heather Ashton, Sherbourne, School House Lane, Bishop's Castle, SY9 5BP Tel 01588 638818 for further details.

There is a limit of 250 walkers.
