Powis Castle
Near Welshpool and home of the Clive family, this is one of
the most splendid stately homes in Wales. The gardens are
world-famous and especially known for its spectacular yew
hedges.
National Trust owned. Open 31 March
to 30 June, 1 Sept to 4 Nov: daily except Mon & Tues; July
& Aug: daily except Mon (but open all BH Mons). Times: Castle
& museum 1–5. Garden: 11–6.

Historic Working Farm
Acton Scott, near Church Stretton. A mixed farm recreating

Secret Hills
Discovery Centre
Newly opened at Craven Arms, this visitor centre is a fascinating
introduction to the landscape, geology and folklore of the
South Shropshire hills. Includes a simulated hot air balloon
flight over the surrounding area, café, shop, and a
series of designated walks around the nearby Onny meadows
and beyond.
