    There are many historic sites and tourist attractions within easy reach of Bishop's Castle. We have only a small selection here, and all are within a 15 mile drive of the town.
         
   

Stokesay Castle
Near Craven Arms. This stunning medieval fortified manor house is one of English Heritage's prize possessions.
Open daily 10am-6pm April-October, Weds to Sun 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm during November-March. 01588 672544.

Powis Castle
Near Welshpool and home of the Clive family, this is one of the most splendid stately homes in Wales. The gardens are world-famous and especially known for its spectacular yew hedges.
National Trust owned. Open 31 March to 30 June, 1 Sept to 4 Nov: daily except Mon & Tues; July & Aug: daily except Mon (but open all BH Mons). Times: Castle & museum 1–5. Garden: 11–6.

Acton Scott Historic Working Farm
Acton Scott, near Church Stretton. A mixed farm recreating the methods and practices at the turn of the 20th century. Farm tours, animals and daily craft demonstrations.

Secret Hills Discovery Centre
Newly opened at Craven Arms, this visitor centre is a fascinating introduction to the landscape, geology and folklore of the South Shropshire hills. Includes a simulated hot air balloon flight over the surrounding area, café, shop, and a series of designated walks around the nearby Onny meadows and beyond.
