Saville was a prolific children's author who wrote many adventure
stories set in his native Sussex and in Shropshire where he
was a frequent visitor, staying at a house called Prior's
Holt on the slopes of the Long Mynd. This was the setting
for his first novel, Mystery at Witchend published
in 1943.
He is particularly known for his series of twenty Lone Pine
adventures written between 1943 and 1978. Eleven of these
were set in South Shropshire, mostly on the Long Mynd where
over the years he discovered many secret locations, but be
gradually extended his range to encompass the Stiperstones
and other parts of Shropshire.
| The Malcolm Saville Society was established to promote
an appreciation of the author's work. Their website at
www.witchend.com provides information about all his adventure stories. |
