Public Holidays and Opening Times

For the benefit of visitors from other countries, the following days are public holidays in England and Wales, and many Bishop's Castle events are timed to coincide with these holidays.

Some Bishop's Castle shops catering for visitors do not open on Mondays, particularly in winter, but will usually open for holiday Mondays. See the individual business listings for details. Public transport operators normally run a Sunday timetable on holidays but please check for details.

Wednesday is traditionally early closing day in the town and some local shops will close on Wednesday afternoons throughout the year. Fridays are market days when the town can be very busy. Shops generally open from 9am or 10am until 5pm or 5.30.

Pubs in town normally open from 12 noon to 11pm, 10.30pm on Sundays, but some may have more restricted hours in winter and often close during the afternoons. Special extensions to midnight or later are often granted on holidays and for special events.
